25 Years of Volunteer Ascension: A Night of Celebration and Community Support
More than 250 people donned red carpet-themed and glitzy attire Thursday to celebrate the 25-year history Volunteer Ascension.
During the event, held at the Gonzales Civic Center, the agency's new logo was released and its board president, Brian Henderson announced a new website would soon go live.
"We came together as a community, raising an astounding $52,000, which directly powers our mission to create a brighter future for those around us," Henderson said after the event. "Who we are as an organization has evolved over the past 25 years and with that, we've informally adopted a tagline of 'More than Volunteers, Greater than Ascension.'
"While the focus remains on Ascension Parish, our hearts and volunteers know no boundaries," he added. "We have been called to support our surrounding parishes and even other states in times of need."
Founding members Harriet Babin Miller, Marie Anderson and Darlene Denstorff, who served as Volunteer Ascension's first executive director, were honored for their efforts to start the nonprofit. In addition, former executive director Audrey Boudreaux was also honored for her service.
Sherry Denig, executive director, praised the board of directors and her staff for planning the event, which included a photo booth, wine pull and jewelry drawing.
She thanked the businesses for sponsoring the event and NaNaSha for performing.
